Rest here awhile

013

you, dear child

you exert so much energy

trying to be something other than

how you were made.

Rest. Rest in Me and know

that you are loved, you are

a delight to me and I am

proud of you – just as you are.

Come to me those who are weary

and heavy laden and I will give

you a real rest.

Rest. Rest in Me and know

that you are loved, there is no

one else you need to prove yourself

to or meet the expectations of,

there is no ‘right’ way or ‘normal’.

Each person must walk their own path

and I made each of you unique

– though your path may travel along

aside another’s, it may not, or may

not always and it is not given to

you to know the Way… I know

the Way. I AM the Way, and I am

with you always.

Rest. Rest here awhile with Me.

We can go on when you are ready.

God is…

Dec 2013 004

God is in the garden with the grubs and shrubs

God is in the laundry with the taps and tubs

God is in the kitchen with the pots and pans

God is in the bathroom where we wash our hands

God is in the bedroom with the lamp and bed

God is in the backyard with the bikes and shed

God is in you – and also in me

Whatever you look like, wherever you’re from

God lives within us and God’s kingdom comes

A benediction

036

the suns warmth

a benediction on my skin

the birds sing

Amazing Grace to You

the breeze stirs

lifting my spirit with it

and I know, all at once,

why-I-am

cloud cover moves in

chilling

but it would be too intense

to remain in Your presence always

You are a lot to take in

it is better this way

in pieces

to appreciate and savour You

to be converted to grace

again and again

in discovery – a joy, in acceptance – hope

rebirth in eucalypt spice and…                       <repeat> the sun’s warmth…

Today as I walked

021

Today as I walked

I passed a man

who was eating

an apple.

As I too was eating

an apple

we exchanged grave nods

acknowledging

what it is to have

a good apple, and

a good walk

we rest in the grass

066

We rest in the grass

we rest in You

cool breeze stirs

bringing movement

the yellowing sun on closed lids

bringing reassurance, stillness

we seek – what will we find?

we listen – ducks on the pond, frogs in the  reeds

the sh-ssh of wind in the eucalypt strands

to the sacred ordinariness of things

the answers are in you

the answers are in ourselves

the answers are in the story and

the story is still unfolding

Listening

021

I walked beside the sea today
the sea, the sea
Seeing out but looking in today
looking in, looking in
Doubt, fear, responsibility I exhaled today
I exhaled, I exhaled
I picked up a broken yet beautiful shell today
broken yet… broken yet…
and held it to my ear to listen today
to listen, to listen
and today, today I heard You

love makes a way

in the face of unwelcome
love makes a way
against powers politic
love makes a way
counter to public feeling
love makes a way
to closed fist, reach open hand
love makes a way
traveller greeting fellow traveller
love makes a way
love makes a way

we share life together

we share life together
you and I
you know me and I know you
I try to tell you about my day
while we load the dishwasher, bathe the kids, clear the
table, sign the permission slip, find today’s
reader, break up the fight…
Are you listening to me?
I don’t feel heard.
I do things for you all the time
and you do them for me
we’ve been at this for a while
and we have our rhythms and habits…
do you think though, we could ask more often
“What do you need?”
I suppose I want to pick and choose
only being helpful in those ways
I like
we each need the reminder that
love finds a way
you know me and I know you
you and I
we share life together

the river

I sit in the middle of the river
and the river sits in the middle of me
won’t you come and sit by the river?
sit by the river a while with me

You

reaching hand

You take, shape, mold me
You hold the raw material tenderly
and say ‘..this has potential’
I am a child.
I am underfoot and in the way.
I cannot stay within the lines
but I am so eager to help
You cannot resist me.
I am kind of cute and You
delight in my delight.
Surely this will be slower, more work,
not turn out quite as You intended
Surely this will be perfect.
